Student ID Verification Policy

To protect the privacy of student information and ensure academic integrity, CSU Global students may encounter BioSig technology in their course assignments. To move forward with an assignment, a student must successfully complete the BioSig ID verification. If a student fails or refuses to complete the verification sign in, the student will be denied access to the specific assignment and directed to the appropriate office for validation.

If it is determined that anyone other than the student is accessing the student’s profile and assignments, the information will be reported to the Office of Student Affairs and Provost which may result in disciplinary action.

CSU Global practices regarding student record keeping, access, and privacy are based on the provisions of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. Students with questions about the protection of student information or the verification process should contact Registrar@csuglobal.edu.

Policy Procedure

CSU Global will verify student identification in line with the items below:

  • All BioMetric Signature ID verifications will take place within university courses.
  • Courses that utilize the BioSig technology will include a BioSig Enrollment section in the Modules section of the course.
  • The BioSig Enrollment section provides the student with links to the following:
    • Introductory information about the technology, and instructions on how to create a biometric password and complete the BioMetric Signature ID enrollment process.
    • A link to enroll/create their password and practice using the technology.
  • Once a student enrolls in BioMetric Signature ID and creates a password, that password can be used in all courses where BioMetric Signature ID is utilized. Students also have the option to reset their password and create a new one.
  • Various Critical Thinking assignments within the course will require the student to authenticate their identity using BioSig. This is designated as “Step 1” for the assignment. “Step 2” is the actual assignment submission. A screen shot is included below for reference.
  • To submit an assignment that requires BioMetric Signature ID, students must authenticate their identity in “Step 1”.
    • If the student successfully completes the authentication process in “Step 1”, then they will proceed to “Step 2” and submit their assignment.
    • If the student does not successfully complete the authentication process in “Step 1”, then they are unable to submit their assignment.
      • If the student fails to complete “Step 1”, they will need to contact BioSig Help Support. Click here to submit a help request with BioSig.
  • For assistance with BioMetric Signature ID, including questions or technical issues, students can access the BioSig-ID Help Site or contact Student IT Support via their Student Portal. Students can review help articles, user guides or submit a ticket for assistance.
  • BioSig is designed to allow for accessibility to individuals with a wide range of disabilities. CSU Global’s ADA Office is able to modify a student’s individual settings within BioSig to make the necessary accommodations. For assistance with accessibility requests due to a disability, students should email ada@csuglobal.edu.

CSU Global will strictly enforce student identity verification through the Office of Student Affairs.

  • Students who exhibit unusual activity in a CSU Global course as reported by the BioSig Suspicious Activity-Reporting System and verified as suspicious by the Office of Student Affairs will be notified by email that suspicious activity has been identified, and that sharing login credentials with anyone is a violation of the CSU Global’s Student Code of Conduct, and may result in progressive discipline. This will be documented as a “Warning” in the student’s record.
    • A second offense violation will be documented as a “Final Warning” in the student’s record and an email will be sent to the student stating that continued suspicious activity has been identified. This final warning will notify the student this is the second violation for the course and the student will be blocked access to the course. The course instructor will be asked to assign a final grade of ‘F’ for the course.
    • Any further violations may result in progressive discipline, up to and including suspension or expulsion from the university.
  • Students who use masked IP addresses as reported by the BioSig suspicious activity-reporting system will be notified by email that usage of a masked IP address has been identified, and that use of masked IP addresses is a violation of the CSU Global’s Student Code of Conduct, and may result in progressive discipline. This will be documented as a “Warning” in the student’s record.
    • A second offense violation for masked IP address in the same course as the first violation will be documented as a “Final Warning” in the student’s record and an email will be sent to the student stating that continued use of masked IP addresses has been identified. This final warning will notify the student this is the second violation and may result in progressive discipline, up to and including suspension or expulsion.
  • CSU Global’s Office of Student Affairs at any time may initiate Code of Conduct reviews or proceedings for any violations to the BioSig and Code of Conduct Policies.
  • Student’s may appeal a grade of ‘F’ through the Office of Student Affairs by requesting a Code of Conduct Hearing.
  • Final decisions made by the Code of Conduct Panel may be appealed to the Provost within 30 days according to the Provost Appeal process. The decision of the Provost is final.
