Statement on Copyright

  • Copyright law provides authors of works the right to be compensated when others use those works in certain ways. Copyright infringement is the act of exercising, without permission or legal authority, one or more of the exclusive rights granted to the copyright owner under section 106 of the Copyright Act.
  • Consistent with CSU Global’s Copyright Policy, students are responsible for complying with copyright law, including reproduction and distribution or copyrighted work and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, in addition to exercising good faith actions when applying fair use principles to the completion of their assignments and projects. Individuals who participate in the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material, including unauthorized peer-to-peer file sharing, may be subject to civil and criminal liabilities. In the file-sharing context, downloading or uploading substantial parts of a copyrighted work without authority constitutes an infringement.
  • Consequences of copyright infringement can include disciplinary proceedings outlined in the CSU Global Student Code of Conduct and/or civil and criminal penalties associated with federal copyright laws. In general, anyone found liable for civil copyright infringement may be ordered to pay either actual damages or “statutory” damages affixed at not less than $750 and not more than $30,000 per work infringed. For “willful” infringement, a court may award up to $150,000 per work infringed. A court can, in its discretion, also assess costs and attorneys’ fees. Willful copyright infringement can also result in criminal penalties, including imprisonment of up to five years and fines of up to $250,000 per offense.

Student Outcome Data

Retention and Graduation Rates

  • In accordance with the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965, as amended, each postsecondary institution must publish information regarding retention rates and graduation rates of degree seeking first-time, full-time (FTFT) undergraduate students entering the institution. CSU Global is a degree completion school that requires more than 12 transferable credit hours, and therefore does not have a first-time freshman cohort. However, retention and graduation rates for transfer student cohorts can be viewed on the University Data webpage.
