Denver, Colorado — The Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System today announced that Pamela Toney, currently chief operating officer for Colorado State University Global, will become the University’s next president.

Toney’s appointment, effective Sept. 1, followed an internal search. She will be only the second president to lead CSU Global, succeeding Dr. Becky Takeda-Tinker, who will transition into a new role as chief educational innovation officer for the CSU System. Takeda-Tinker joined Global in 2008 and became its first full-time president in 2010.

“Pam Toney’s commitment to student success and expertise in high-quality online education have prepared her well to be a visionary leader for CSU Global,” Board Chair Nancy Tuor said. “We are confident she is the right person to take the University forward and build on its already extraordinary success. Her experience and insights align closely with the Board’s goals for the University and its students.”

Toney joined CSU Global in 2013 as director of financial aid and senior director of student financial services. She went on to become associate vice president of student operations, then vice president of student operations, senior vice president of student operations, senior vice president of operations and then chief operating officer. In her current role, she drives the strategic plan and achievement of operating and financial goals across all university departments. She came to CSU Global from Colorado Technical University, where she served as the assistant controller.

“CSU Global is a unique business model in higher education – there’s no other campus like it,” CSU System Chancellor Tony Frank said. “Pamela Toney has been a core part of the team that built that model and she knows how to build on its potential. As an accomplished educator and administrator, she brings a remarkable combination of experiences to the role, and we are excited to see how her vision for the University unfolds.”
Toney holds a bachelor’s in psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, a Master of Psychology from Walden University, a Master of Business Administration from Colorado Technical University, along with a graduate certificate in cybersecurity from CSU Global.

“It is an honor to be selected as the next leader of CSU Global, the premier online university in the nation,” said Toney. “I want to thank the CSU System Board of Governors, Chancellor Frank, and the entire Colorado State University System for the opportunity. I look forward to continuing to build on the legacy, innovation, and achievements of the institution under Dr. Takeda-Tinker’s leadership to advance our mission, serve the state of Colorado, and help modern learners everywhere achieve academic and career goals.”

The CSU System is home to three universities: the flagship Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins, CSU Pueblo, and CSU Global, the first fully accredited, fully online public university in the country. The System also is building an educational campus, CSU Spur, set to be complete in 2022 and focused on food, water, and health as part of the future National Western Center in Denver.

The Board of Governors made the announcement at its regular August meeting today. All the voting members of the Board, along with student and faculty representatives from CSU Global, constituted the search committee for the new president.
