When prospective students contact Colorado State University Global, they’re usually looking for clarity. Julie Hoefs is one of the people who provides it.
As an executive enrollment counselor, she spends her days helping those considering enrolling cut through the noise and figure out what earning a degree or certificate at CSU Global really looks like — the time commitment, the expectations, and whether it fits into a life already full of work and family. As the nation’s first public university created to be 100% online—and part of the Colorado State University System—CSU Global was designed with working adults in mind. Eight-week terms. Monthly start dates. A structure that supports serious goals without putting life on hold.
Over time, Hoefs has noticed a pattern in who succeeds.
“The type of student who thrives here, I’ve found, typically has put in some time thinking this through, has space in their schedule, a solid support system, and is motivated by either increased earning potential or a career change,” she said.
In other words, they’re not asking only about admissions, but whether CSU Global can fit into their real life. Below, Hoefs answers some of the most common questions she receives from prospective students. Those questions tend to fall into a few clear categories: cost, time, flexibility, and support.
How much does CSU Global cost per credit, and are scholarships available?
Undergraduate tuition is $375 per credit hour, and graduate tuition is $675 per credit hour. Most classes are three credit hours. CSU Global partners with many organizations that offer tuition discounts, so chat with your enrollment counselor about what discounts you may qualify for. We can also guide you on scholarship availability.
Yes. Students can apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Your enrollment counselor and the Student Finance department will help you every step of the way to get your finances in order and prepare to start. Your ducks? In a row.
Yes. Colorado State University Global is regionally accredited and is part of the Colorado State University System.
Accreditation means a university has been evaluated by an independent accrediting body to ensure it meets established standards for academic quality, faculty qualifications, student support, and institutional effectiveness. Regional accreditation is considered the gold standard in U.S. higher education and is important for things like credit transfer, employer recognition, and eligibility for federal financial aid.
For students, accreditation signals that the degree or certificate they earn meets recognized academic standards and is respected by employers and other institutions.
Our certificates are a quick-to-complete option you can tackle within a year, or even as quickly as six months. Bachelor’s degree completion times depend on the number of transfer credits you can bring in, but you can speed things up by taking two courses at a time. Our enrollment counselors help each student build a personalized plan that focuses on their goals. If you’re ready to succeed, we’re ready to help.
Yes, CSU Global is fully online. There are no set, required login times. You create your own schedule; just be sure to meet the twice-weekly assignment deadlines. Courses are delivered through Canvas, a widely used and intuitive learning platform. You’ll be a pro in no time.
I also tell students that the first two or three weeks really matter. The students who do best usually get started early with reading and assignments and ask for help when needed. They also take advantage of the resources available to them through tutoring, the writing center, and faculty office hours.
Yes. Undergraduate certificates are stackable toward a bachelor’s degree, and graduate certificates can count toward a full master’s degree. Certificates are a great way to achieve a credential while knocking out courses you’ll need for a full program.
Yes. Our instructors are the best part of our program. They’re industry experts, often working in the field they teach, with tons of professional wisdom to share. They hold office hours throughout the week so you can connect one-on-one and build connections that could benefit you in and outside of the virtual classroom.
The biggest myth I hear from prospective students is that they worry about feeling alone, but in reality, the instructors are available each week during office hours for help.
Students also have access to a success counselor who can serve as a resource. They have access to tutoring and can get help with paper writing, etc. Other students in the class are available to connect with. There is a lot of support available.

Questions about cost, time, and accreditation matter. But for most students, the real question is simpler: Can I do this?
The conversations Hoefs has every day are meant to replace uncertainty with a plan.
