March is National Social Work Month, and we’re thrilled to be able take a moment to show our appreciation for social workers and all the invaluable work they do.

The History of National Social Work Month

National Social Work Month was first organized in 1963 by the National Association of Social Workers. The month honors the important work done by our nation’s 700,000+ social work employees. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan officially declared March as the month of recognition for social workers.

Why Social Work is Essential

Social workers assist in several areas of our communities. They help in cases of substance abuse, natural disasters, healthcare, hospice and palliative care, as well as military and veteran support.

While we all encounter difficult or challenging times in our lives, sometimes people need more support than what their families or friends can provide. Social workers help the most vulnerable in our societies, providing guidance, reassurance, and support to get people back on their feet.
