In the infographic below, Dr. Lisa Witzig, CSU Global’s lead faculty member for the bachelor’s in marketing program, shows you how to climb the marketing career ladder. She outlines the general job duties for each level so you know what may be expected of you as you move closer to the top. While this infographic focuses on marketing specifically, you can apply this information to a variety of industries. Keep reading to see what marketers do and the types of marketing jobs available at each step to the top.

The types of marketing jobs a marketer can have are vast and varied. Some focus on the overall strategy, while others work hands-on to develop the copy and design of ads or products. There are media buyers who negotiate ad sales, and analysts who use data to optimize campaigns. There are digital markers and traditional marketers, people in direct response marketing, and others in brand marketing. Email marketers, social media managers, communications experts, and the list goes on and on.

Regardless of where you fall on the spectrum of “marketer”, or whatever industry you may be a part of, chances are you’ll move through the positions outlined below on your way to the top.   • This is extremely helpful! As a current marketing student at CSU-Global, I can say that I do have dreams of working up the ladder. I think that getting to the top will be a challenge but also fun! As the ladder shows, great marketers aren’t born – they are created over time!

  • Thank you Dr. Witzig for this amazing representation of what a marketing career will look like. As rightly said, the jobs of marketeers are vast and varied. Though new technologies and strategies emerge, marketers will likely always be in demand since they play a critical role in assuring a company’s success. They are responsible for spreading the word about a firm’s products or services and tapping into new markets as old ones are saturated. That is why earning a marketing degree can open many doors across a wide range of industries. I love the info graphic! It clearly depicts the next step for different positions within marketing — gives employees, and students, some motivation on what they can look forward to next!
