Whether you’re exploring a certificate program or a full degree, CSU Global offers multiple ways to make education more affordable. Below, Amanda Elliott, associate director of financial aid & student finance advising, answers common questions about combining resources, filling funding gaps, and getting one-on-one support.
Yes! Students can use both options, and many do. Oftentimes, employer benefits may only cover direct costs, like tuition and books, which leaves students to cover the indirect costs of going to school – such as food, housing, and personal expenses. Financial aid can be a way to bridge the gap between the direct cost an employer may cover and other expenses that come up.
Sometimes federal financial aid does not cover the full cost of attending school. If it doesn’t, students should consider all options available to them, including reaching out to their employers to see if they qualify for any tuition benefits, exploring outside scholarship resources, and considering the use of a private loan. CSU Global has additional resources for searching for scholarships on our website, as well as resources for reviewing and comparing private loan options. Finally, a payment plan can help students break payments down into monthly installments while still pursuing their degree program.
Yes! Students can qualify for federal student aid when taking both undergraduate and graduate certificate programs. Students should keep in mind that the amount of aid available to them in these certificate programs can differ when compared to a traditional degree. As such, we recommend that you speak with Student Financial Services to fully understand your eligibility and the differences between the academic options. Certificates can be a great way to get started with school before continuing to the full degree as well!
