Colorado State University Global is introducing a new online Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning designed to prepare students for opportunities in one of technology’s fastest-growing areas.

The 120-credit program combines computer science and programming fundamentals with applied study in artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, computer vision, cloud technologies, and responsible AI. No previous experience in AI, programming, or computer science is required.

“Artificial intelligence is changing nearly every industry, from healthcare and finance to cybersecurity and manufacturing. Organizations are looking for professionals who understand both computer science fundamentals and how to build AI-powered solutions,” said Dr. Matthew Brown, Program Director Computer Science at CSU Global.

“Earning a bachelor’s degree now gives students the skills they need to take advantage of one of today’s fastest-growing career fields and prepare for the jobs of tomorrow,” he said. “Everyone claims to be knowledgeable of AI and tools, but this gives graduates the credentials to go along with those claims.”

What Will Students Learn in the AI and Machine Learning Program?

Students begin with foundational courses in Python programming, operating systems, data structures, and algorithms. They then progress to artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, information retrieval, Microsoft Azure AI services, and AI ethics and policy.

Through the program, students will learn to:

  • Design and implement artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions.
  • Apply supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques.
  • Develop skills in computer vision, robotics, natural language processing, and information retrieval.
  • Use Microsoft Azure and vendor-neutral tools to create scalable AI workflows.
  • Evaluate the ethical, social, and professional effects of AI technologies.
  • Complete applied projects addressing real-world challenges.

The curriculum concludes with an applied computer science capstone that allows students to bring together the technical and problem-solving skills developed throughout the program.

Designed for Students at Any Starting Point

The B.S. in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is designed for students beginning their technology education as well as professionals preparing to move into AI-focused work. There are no additional program admission requirements, and students do not need previous programming or computer science experience.

The curriculum builds progressively, giving students the opportunity to develop core programming knowledge before taking more advanced AI and machine learning courses.

“You don’t need prior programming or AI experience to get started,” Brown said. “Our curriculum begins with foundational computer science and Python programming courses before introducing advanced topics like machine learning, computer vision, and cloud AI services. Each course builds on the last, helping students develop their skills and confidence through hands-on projects and real-world applications.”

An Online AI Degree Built for Working Adults

The bachelor’s degree is offered 100% online through CSU Global. Courses are asynchronous, so students can complete coursework without attending class at a set time.

CSU Global offers eight-week courses and monthly start dates, allowing students to begin when they are ready and make progress around work, family, and other responsibilities.

Students may also use eligible employer tuition assistance or reimbursement benefits. CSU Global offers delayed tuition payment options for students whose employer benefits have been confirmed, helping align tuition deadlines with employer reimbursement schedules.

Customize the Degree With a Specialization

Students can tailor the degree by adding a specialization aligned with their interests or career plans. Options closely related to AI and machine learning include:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
  • Azure AI Automation
  • Python Application Development
  • Python and Data Analytics
  • Cybersecurity
  • Data Management and Analysis
  • Virtualization and Cloud Computing

A specialization allows students to develop additional knowledge in a focused area without adding credits beyond those required for the bachelor’s degree.

Career Opportunities in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Organizations across healthcare, finance, manufacturing, logistics, retail, cybersecurity, government, and software development are adopting AI-driven technologies.

Graduates will be prepared to pursue entry-level and early-career opportunities involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, software development, intelligent automation, cloud computing, and data-focused work. Potential career paths may include:

  • Machine learning engineer
  • AI engineer
  • Artificial intelligence developer
  • AI solutions engineer
  • Intelligent automation developer
  • Robotics software developer
  • Cloud AI engineer
  • Applied AI analyst

“Graduates will be ready to develop intelligent applications, automate business processes, analyze data, and help organizations solve real-world challenges using AI and machine learning,” said Brown. “They’ll have experience with industry-relevant tools and technologies, along with an understanding of responsible AI practices. Whether joining a startup, a Fortune 500 company, or a government organization, graduates will be prepared to make meaningful contributions from day one.”

Employment in related fields is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of data scientists to grow 34% and employment of software developers, quality assurance analysts, and testers to grow 15% between 2024 and 2034.
