What It’s Like Being a CSU Global Student

Share

Considering CSU Global? Here are many of the questions (and answers!) we hear from prospective students.

Q: Is CSU Global an online campus only or is it an online program that’s part of a brick-and-mortar school?

A: We are a 100% online campus! CSU Global’s administrative offices are located in Aurora, Colorado, but your classes and any student resources you need will be anywhere you have an internet connection.

Q: What kind of student services and resources are available?

A: Once enrolled, you’ll be assigned a dedicated Student Success Counselor who can answer any questions you might have. Further, CSU Global offers a full suite of free resources, including 24/7 tech support, a robust library and writing center, 1:1 tutoring in dozens of subject areas, career coaching and resume services, and disability services, as well as a Student Assistance Program, which offers free counseling sessions, legal services, and other life concierge services.

Q: What is the online campus like?

A: View this short video for a look at our Student Portal, where you register for class, contact your Student Success Counselor, view your degree progress, make tuition payments, and more.

Q: How much time will I need to study or spend on assignments?

A: Everyone reads, studies, and writes at different speeds, but we generally advise students to plan on spending approximately 15-20 hours per week on each course they’re enrolled in.

Q: Who are the professors, instructors, or faculty teaching the courses?

A: In addition to having terminal degrees and professional experience in their fields, our subject-matter expert instructors are specially trained to teach in an online environment.

Q: What are the online classes and virtual classrooms like?

A: Watch here to get an idea of what one of our courses looks like. You’ll also see where you’ll find your course materials, communicate with your instructor and classmates, turn in assignments, and more.

Q: What is the curriculum like and what are the assignments like?

A: It will depend based on the course, but for the most part, courses will be made up of interactive lectures, readings, videos, discussion post prompts and replies, critical thinking assignments, and mastery exercises. And all work is done independently – no group projects here!

Q: What does it mean when we say “flexibility and accountability”?

A: Our classes are asynchronous and 100% online, which means you study and complete assignments when it works for your schedule. Whether you prefer 5 a.m. on a Tuesday or 10 p.m. on a Saturday, it’s fine with us! That said, to help you make progress and stay on track, there are weekly deadlines for assignments. We find this structure to be the perfect balance of flexibility and accountability. Finally, we understand that some weeks are busier than others, so we offer a generous no-penalty late policy. Because life happens!
