Story
February 9, 2026
Tobias Lundy attended CSU Global while transitioning from military to civilian life and found great fulfillment. He served as President of the SVO and graduated in 2025.
What were some challenges or considerations you faced when deciding to earn your degree online?
One of the biggest considerations for me was balancing school with full-time work and personal responsibilities. As a veteran transitioning into civilian life, structure and time management were important to me. I needed a program that allowed flexibility without sacrificing quality. I also wondered whether I would feel connected to classmates and professors in a virtual environment, but I quickly learned that CSU Global has strong support systems in place for networking and academic success.
What made you decide to attend CSU Global?
I chose CSU Global because of its reputation for supporting working adults and military-affiliated students. The flexibility to complete coursework on my own schedule, combined with accredited and career-focused programs, made it the right fit. I also appreciated that CSU Global was designed specifically for online students rather than being a traditional campus trying to convert to online learning.
How has attending CSU Global helped you overcome personal or professional challenges and impacted you as a veteran?
CSU Global helped me regain a sense of direction and mission after transitioning out of the military. The coursework helped me build confidence in my ability to serve others in a civilian context, while still applying the leadership, discipline, and empathy I developed in the service. Academically, CSU Global gave me the structure I needed to grow professionally, and personally it reminded me that my service experience is not just something in my past, it’s something I can continue to draw from to help others.
What was it like serving as President of the SVO and enhancing the resources available for our military and veteran students?
Serving as President of the Student Veterans Organization was one of the greatest honors of my educational journey. It allowed me to support other veterans who were adapting to student life, while also advocating for resources that promote mental health, academic success, and community. Enhancing support services meant building bridges, between students, staff, and outside veteran support organizations. It reinforced for me that leadership doesn’t end when the uniform comes off.
Any personal or professional goals on the horizon that you would like to share?
My ongoing goal is to continue serving military and veteran communities, whether through counseling, outreach programs, or leadership roles in community organizations. I also plan to pursue advanced professional certifications to expand my ability to support individuals in crisis and to lead within human service environments.
Any advice for someone considering attending CSU Global/going back to school?
Absolutely, go for it. Returning to school can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve been away for a while, but CSU Global is structured to support adult learners. The key is to stay organized, communicate with your instructors early and often, and make use of the resources available to you, especially the veteran and student support networks. You don’t have to do it alone, and you’ll be surprised by what you’re capable of when you take the first step.
