The Educator Licensure-Science program is nationally recognized and proves your proficiency in effective teaching, leadership, and knowledge of best-practices in the classroom. This state-approved, online educator licensure program consists of eight courses for a total of 24 credit hours. This program is also offered as a specialization within the Master of Science in Teaching and Learning.

Students interested in completing the educator licensure- science program must complete additional provisions. The following documents must be submitted through the Student Portal no later than 14 days prior to start of the term the student intends to enroll in OTL501:
According to the Teacher Preparation Shortage Areas of 2014-15, math and science teachers are particularly in demand in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida (only Biology), Hawaii, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Wyoming (only Science).

The Educator Licensure-Math consists of eight courses totaling 24 credits.
To meet the state requirement of 800 hours of classroom experience, students must serve as a student teacher or intern in a school at least 17 hours per week, for no more than 12 months, while concurrently enrolled in the first seven courses.
The assignments in the educator licensure program will be performance-based and require that the candidates implement what they are learning in the coursework of a K-12 school setting. They should work under the guidance of a school mentor (a licensed science or mathematics teacher), a CSU-Global faculty member, and an internship coordinator.
For students to complete their coursework, they will register in OTL595 – Student Teaching during the final term.
The Educator Licensure-Math consists of eight courses, totaling 24 credits.
Examine the goals and objectives for integrating math and literacy into content area instruction, making instruction and content relevant to students, fostering safe and nurturing learning environments for students, engaging students in personalized learning, integrating technology into instruction to maximize student learning, advocating for partnerships to support students and families, and demonstrating high ethical standards and leadership capacity.
This course serves as an applications-based opportunity for students to engage in school settings. During this course the student will secure their 7-12 school placement and mentor. They will work with their mentor to become acquainted with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for the application of complex components of quality teaching. This course is a replacement course for OTL595 as of the 2017-2018 Fall trimester. Students cannot receive credit for both of these courses.
This course provides students with an introduction to learning theories. A variety of theoretical constructs are studied to address diverse learning styles and conceptual frameworks for engaging learners. Students will explore theoretical perspectives on learning, cognition, and cognitive development. By examining a range of principles, perspectives and tools, students will gain an understanding of learning and teaching in a variety of contexts. Students will use problem solving, application, and evaluation skills to analyze the theories and practices of educational organizations.
The science educator will demonstrate their ability to engage students in scientific investigation to build models and theories about the natural world; emphasize crosscutting concepts that have application across all domains of science, and; design instruction and assessment around the most important aspects of science that provide a key tool for understanding or investigating more complex ideas and solving problems.
Introduction to instructional system design theories and models used in Pre-K-12 learning environments and nontraditional settings with a focus on backward design. This course is a replacement course for OTL540k as of the 2017-2018 Fall term. Students cannot receive credit for both these courses.
Examination of methods and techniques for evaluation and assessment of learning in Pre-K-12 settings with a focus on instructional improvement and student achievement. Students who take OTL541K will not be able to apply this credit towards any program requiring OTL547. Students in the Masters of Science in Teaching and Learning program prior to the 2017-2018 Fall trimester take OTL541k.
An examination of the theories and concepts that define cultural responsiveness with an emphasis on the theory and methods for creating multiple pathways of learning to accommodate students with varying backgrounds of knowledge, readiness, language, interest, and learning styles.
This course serves as an applications-based opportunity for students to engage in school settings. Educators become acquainted with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for the application of complex components of quality teaching. Students will be provided with resources and feedback to support them in applying for a teaching license and teaching jobs. This course is a replacement course for OTL595 as of the 2017-2018 Fall trimester. Students cannot receive credit for both of these courses.
