Reaffirmation of Accreditation

It's hard to believe, but we're only two months away from our comprehensive visit for our Higher Learning Commission (HLC) reaffirmation of accreditation. As a reminder, CSU-Global was granted initial accreditation in 2011, which needs to be reaffirmed at our comprehensive visit on February 22 & 23, 2016.

We kicked off our reaffirmation in spring 2014 and we have just completed our assurance argument, which is in the process of final editing and quality assurance. The assurance argument was reviewed by stakeholders across the campus, including the Reaffirmation Steering Committee, faculty program coordinators, and the leadership team. Once we have completed our final review of the argument document, we will open it up for the review team from HLC which includes five peer reviewers. Our assurance document is organized around the five HLC Criterion for Accreditation:

  • Criterion 1. Mission
  • Criterion 2. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
  • Criterion 3. Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support
  • Criterion 4. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement
  • Criterion 5. Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness

We are currently preparing for the site visit, which has included meeting with stakeholders such as staff, program coordinators, faculty, and will also include communication with students. In the meetings we have discussed how each group helps CSU-Global meet its mission and achieve its vision. We also discuss how each specific department and program helps CSU-Global meet the HLC Criteria.

Overall the reaffirmation process has been an excellent opportunity for CSU-Global to reflect on the incredible work we do every day to achieve our mission of providing high quality educational opportunities to our adult, nontraditional students.

Reaffirmation of Accreditation

Colorado State University-Global Campus received its initial regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in June, 2011; this initial accreditation was for five years and must be reaffirmed during the 2015/2016 academic year. In May 2014 CSU-Global began the process of reaffirming our accreditation through an 18 month reflective process that culminates in a comprehensive visit in February 2016.

The Higher Learning Commission

The Higher Learning Commission, one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States and accredits institutions in 19 states throughout the North Central region of the United States. HLC is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

HLC Criteria for Accreditation

The HLC has designed the accreditation process to achieve its mission: Serving the common good by assuring and advancing the quality of higher education. Each institution must meet the following five criteria for accreditation:

  • Criterion 1. Mission
  • Criterion 2. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
  • Criterion 3. Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support
  • Criterion 4. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement
  • Criterion 5. Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness

The Reaffirmation Process

The Reaffirmation process will last approximately two years and includes teams of staff and faculty who collect evidence that documents how CSU-Global meets the Accreditation Criteria, Assumed Practices, and Federal Regulations of the Higher Learning Commission. The reaffirmation process is led by a team of peer reviewers who will review assurance documentation and conduct a site visit.

The team has been busy over the summer writing the written portion of the reaffirmation documentation (the argument document) and will begin sharing the document with internal and external stakeholders in early October. The argument documentation is the narrative where we explain how CSU-Global meets the HLC Criteria for Accreditation. For those familiar with the previous self-study documents, the argument document is much more concise and requires the institution to provide the evidence supporting the narrative. The argument documentation has provided the team as well as faculty and staff across the campus with an opportunity to see all of the incredible work that occurs on campus to support the learning of CSU-Global students and we look forward to sharing it with our stakeholders.

Colorado State University-Global Campus received its initial regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in June 2011. This initial accreditation was for five years and must be reaffirmed during the 2015-2016 academic year.

In May 2014, CSU-Global began the process of reaffirming our accreditation through an 18-month reflective process that culminates in a comprehensive visit in February 2016. We are well into this process, and are beginning to write our assurance argument which details how we meet the five HLC Criteria for Accreditation:

  • Criterion 1. Mission
  • Criterion 2. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
  • Criterion 3. Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support
  • Criterion 4. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement
  • Criterion 5. Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness

In other important news our review team for the February visit has been assigned by the Higher Learning Commission, and we have begun a major communication campaign for our faculty that has so far included an overview of the accreditation process; our mission, vision, and core values; and how we assess student learning.

We have also conducted extensive training with our Program Coordinators at our commencement retreat in June, and will do so again at our fall retreat in October. Our staff communication plan began at this month's all-staff meeting, and we will continue training and development up to the time of the visit.

It's hard to believe, but we're less than a year away from our comprehensive visit for our Higher Learning Commission reaffirmation of accreditation. CSU-Global was granted initial accreditation in 2011 which needs to be reaffirmed through the current two-year reaffirmation process, this will culminate in a comprehensive visit on February 22 and 23, 2016.

We kicked off our reaffirmation last spring and our faculty and staff have been busy collecting evidence as part of the reaffirmation process. We will be evaluated on five criteria and federal compliance.

We will wrap up our evidence collection phase in the coming weeks and will begin writing our reaffirmation report which will provide a team of peer reviewers with the documentation to show that we meet the following Criteria for Accreditation:

  • Criterion 1. Mission
  • Criterion 2. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
  • Criterion 3. Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support
  • Criterion 4. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement
  • Criterion 5. Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness

We're entering the final stretch of this important process for CSU-Global, and will keep you informed of our progress.

12.5.14

Colorado State University-Global Campus received its initial regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in June, 2011. This initial accreditation was for five years and must be reaffirmed during the 2015-2016 academic year.

In May, 2014 CSU-Global began the process of reaffirming our accreditation through an 18-month reflective process that culminates in a comprehensive visit on February 22 and 23, 2016.

Where we are in the process:

  • Phase I, Evidence Collection and Gap Analysis, has been completed and was an excellent opportunity to review our policies, processes, and procedures at CSU-Global Campus. The process has brought together faculty, administration, and staff to review how CSU-Global meets the HLC Criteria for Accreditation.
  • The team didn't find any major gaps in meeting the HLC Criteria for Accreditation. The gaps that were identified were focused primarily on increasing our documentation of existing processes.
  • We are now deep into Phase II, Action Planning, where interventions were developed to address the gaps found in Phase I. Once Action Planning is complete, the team of faculty and staff will conduct another round of evidence collection and gap analysis.

9.29.14

This past May, CSU-Global began the process of reaffirming accreditation through an 18 month reflective process, set to culminate in a comprehensive visit to the campus in February, 2016.

Over the summer a team of faculty and staff have been identifying evidence that demonstrates CSU-Global meets the five HLC Criteria for Accreditation.

These criteria are as follows:

  • Criterion 1: Mission
  • Criterion 2: Integrity - Ethical and Responsible Conduct
  • Criterion 3: Teaching and Learning - Quality, Resources, and Support
  • Criterion 4: Teaching and Learning - Evaluation and Improvement
  • Criterion 5: Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness

After the first round of evidence collection and gap analysis, September sees the accreditation team beginning an action planning phase. This is when CSU-Global will make improvements to policies and processes in order to more clearly demonstrate that the Criteria for Accreditation is being met or exceeded across the board.

The action planning phase will last until the end of February, at which point a final gap analysis will be completed.

Colorado State University-Global Campus received its initial regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in June, 2011. This initial accreditation was for five years and must be reaffirmed during the 2015/2016 academic year.

CSU-Global received its initial regional accreditation in June 2011 from the HLC, which was valid for a period of five years. Time flies, however, and the university is beginning the reaffirmation process for its accreditation, which will culminate in a site visit from the HLC during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Throughout this rigorous 18-month process, stakeholders will see a number of communications that document and demonstrate how the university meets the criteria, assumed practices, and federal regulations of its regional accreditation.

Visit the reaffirmation page in the portal or CSUGlobal.edu/reaffirm to learn more, and to get the latest information on the reaffirmation process.

CSU-Global has experienced a lot of growth and improvement, and the university is excited to show the NCA-HLC just how far we've come.
