CSU-Global Launches Series of Career Development Initiatives

Over the course of the past several months, CSU-Global has rolled out a number of initiatives designed to help students in the professional arena. The largest of these was Degree Optimization, in which students earn Awards of Completion and Skills Endorsements throughout their degree programs. These help students to better communicate the valuable skills they learn to current and future employers, and you can read more about ithere.

Additionally, the university hosted its very first Virtual School to Work Career Fair, which included resume reviews, interactive live lectures, and the debut of our new Jobs Center to help students find relevant vacancies in their areas. We've also launched a series of professional development videos featuring industry professionals, which provide helpful advice to students hoping to advance in their careers.

Global Gives Back to the Community

This year CSU-Global staff members nominated a number of great, local organizations with missions close to their hearts, for our Community Relations Grant. This grant is just one way in which the university gives back to the community, demonstrating its own mission of investing in human capital and enhancing the quality of life for citizens in the state of Colorado and beyond. Twelve organizations were selected to receive funds, including Sprout City Farms, Extra Life 2015, Work Options for Women, Excelsior Youth Center, and the Augustana Arts City Strings Violin Program. Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination!

  • Our student support doesn't end with graduation. Through our Career Center and blog, for instance, we regularly provide resources to students and alumni to help them advance their careers. In this piece, we help them prepare answers for some of the toughest interview questions.

  • During the job hunt, it’s important to have the skills that the hiring manager is looking for. It’s even more important that you can communicate the fact that you have those skills. Career Center Guru Todd Kane explains this communication gap, and lets you know how to avoid it.

December Update: Reaffirmation of Accreditation

It's hard to believe, but we're only two months away from our comprehensive visit for our Higher Learning Commission (HLC) reaffirmation of accreditation. As a reminder, CSU-Global was granted initial accreditation in 2011, which needs to be reaffirmed at our comprehensive visit on February 22 & 23, 2016.

We kicked off our reaffirmation in spring 2014 and we have just completed our assurance argument, which is in the process of final editing and quality assurance. The assurance argument was reviewed by stakeholders across the campus, including the Reaffirmation Steering Committee, faculty program coordinators, and the leadership team. Once we have completed our final review of the argument document, we will open it up for the review team from HLC which includes five peer reviewers. Our assurance document is organized around the five HLC Criterion for Accreditation:

  • Criterion 1. Mission
  • Criterion 2. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
  • Criterion 3. Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support
  • Criterion 4. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement
  • Criterion 5. Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness

We are currently preparing for the site visit, which has included meeting with stakeholders such as staff, program coordinators, faculty, and will also include communication with students. In the meetings we have discussed how each group helps CSU-Global meet its mission and achieve its vision. We also discuss how each specific department and program helps CSU-Global meet the HLC Criteria.

Overall the reaffirmation process has been an excellent opportunity for CSU-Global to reflect on the incredible work we do every day to achieve our mission of providing high quality educational opportunities to our adult, nontraditional students.
