On Saturday, September 17, 2016, Colorado State University-Global Campus sponsored Up with People’s high energy performance at Hinkley High School in Aurora, Colorado. In addition to performing, Up with People’s multinational cast and staff also dedicated time to cleaning up nearby parks in Aurora with CSU-Global’s Associate Director of Student Engagement Development Andrew Dixon.
Dixon said, “It was a great opportunity to connect with Aurora as a community and Aurora Public Schools directly. We cleaned up the area behind Hinkley High School to give back to the community that Up with People was visiting. It’s amazing how much these young adults are able to give back while traveling the world and performing.”
Up with People’s traveling cast and staff of 100 people representing 20 countries is currently wrapping up their 50th anniversary celebration with their largest production yet. “The Journey” is a live two-hour performance that sends the audience through time and space with original and popular music from the Beatles to Pharrell. Dixon and a number of CSU-Global staff members were among the almost 1,000 attendees on Saturday night’s performance. Up with People also performed a portion of the show for over 2,000 students, staff, and faculty at Hinkley High School to spread their message of peace, leadership, and understanding.
CSU-Global was thrilled to sponsor Up with People’s visit to Aurora. It was a great partnership because both organizations are rooted in the Denver Metro area. More than 1,000 Coloradans have participated in Up with People performances.
This was the first year that CSU-Global and Up with People have worked together and it was a great experience. Dixon says, “Through our sponsorship of Up with People’s Aurora show we’ve been able to impact our local community and continue our global presence as the cast moves through Europe and Mexico.”
