CSU-Global joined the Open Textbook Network (OTN), a network of higher education institutions and systems committed to the advancement of open textbook initiatives. The OTN works to reinforce an academic and institutional culture where the use of free, high-quality educational resources is encouraged whenever possible.
Cost of textbooks is a major concern for U.S. college students, according to a 2016 report of open textbook costs published by the Student PIRGs.Individual textbook prices often range between $200 and $400 (Senack, 2016). Open textbooks are a type of open educational resource (OER) that offer one solution to textbook affordability. OERs are teaching, learning, and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use and re-purposing by others.
As an OTN member, CSU-Global will help faculty members adopt and adapt open textbooks in their classes as well as collect data to demonstrate the impact of open textbooks for students.
