Greenwood Village, Colo. – Colorado State University Global proudly announced new additions to its teacher licensure programs in the high-demand subject areas of science and mathematics. These Colorado state approved licensure programs, including alternative tracks, will start in spring of 2016, and provide future K-12 teachers with the quality and convenience needed to complete their credentialing online while gaining hands-on experience as a student teacher in a classroom.
“The Bureau of Labor Statistics is projecting the number of STEM occupations will continue to grow significantly faster than other job areas. Therefore, the need for quality math and science teachers to help inspire and encourage children to pursue these areas is greater than ever,” said Dr. Jon Bellum, Provost and Senior Vice President at Colorado State University Global. “We are excited to offer these new teacher licensure programs as a way to help fulfill this need.”
Students can choose to complete either the Teacher Licensure Math or Teacher Licensure Science program as a 24-credit standalone option or as a concentration within the online master’s degree in Teaching and Learning. The curriculum in all options is aligned with the InTASC Model Core National Teaching Standards, the Performance-Based Standards for Colorado Teachers, the Colorado Educator Effectiveness Teacher Quality Standards, and the Colorado 8.0 Content Standards. While all courses are provided in the university’s online asynchronous environment, with no set class times or locations, students apply what they are learning in practical academic settings through an integrated student teaching component. This approach is designed to ensure students are gaining the knowledge it takes to be effective teachers as well as the necessary in-classroom experience.
“It’s with great pride that we are able to provide more educational opportunities for educators themselves,” continued Dr. Bellum. “Through a focus on real-world learning, academic quality, and the success of our students in strong job growth areas, these programs are a representation of the CSU Global mission and our commitment to effective learning at all levels.”
