On the morning of June 9, approximately 1,200 graduates joined us for our live and virtual 2018 commencement ceremonies, themed “One Milestone Leads to the next.”

The 1stBANK Center was filled with CSU Global graduates, their families and friends, guest speakers, and CSU Global faculty and staff.

The Class of 2018 student speaker was Master of Science in Organizational Leadership graduate Victoria LaBelle. She spoke to commencement attendees about how she, like many CSU Global students, decided to “take a leap” to return to school. She also recalled how she managed to maintain balance between her personal and professional lives in addition to being a student.

In her speech, she said, “Life is a series of milestones. With each milestone achieved, you gain new insight and skills through that experience to guide you along your journey and better prepare you to conquer your next challenge…..In moments like these, always remember that you are a Golden Eagle, as represented by our school mascot. Don’t rest upon the perch of this academic milestone you have just achieved. Believe in yourself and what you are capable of. Boldly face challenges and uncertainties with the confidence and the knowledge that you have what it takes to reach your goals, then embrace that discomfort with enthusiasm, and stay the course.”

Carrie Morgridge was the keynote speaker. Morgridge is the vice president and chief disruptor of the Morgridge Family Foundation and award-winning author of books, Every Gift Matters – How Your Passion Can Change the World, and The Spirit of the Trail. The Morgridge Foundation’s mission is investing in philanthropic efforts, which she calls transformative gifts.

She recalled a time when she and her husband, who are avid mountain bikers, prepared to bike cross-country, and detailed an account of their training. In her message, she emphasized her journey and how each milestone she passed along the way is akin to the path of CSU Global graduates. As graduates worked toward their goals, they too have accomplished their own individual milestones along the way leading up to completing their degrees.

She said to 2018 graduates, “Your big goal has been your diploma, getting there, one milestone at a time and never giving up. Going through unchartered territory, sometimes in the dark….There will be other big goals in your life, as this is just the beginning of what is to come. I know CSU Global has prepared you for the unexpected, and that you will use your degree, your confidence and your strength and knowledge to achieve anything you set your mind to.”
