As part of our continuing efforts to provide innovative solutions that meet the needs of today's global learners, we have established the CSU-Global Advisory Council. The Council serves to expand the university's intellectual capacity and provide different perspectives on the execution of CSU-Global's mission. The Council acts as a non-voting advisory group to informally and candidly share information, insights, and opinions in order to enhance the work of the CSU-Global leadership team.

Doug Kelsall is advising LLR partners on investments in the education industry. He is also pursuing personal investments and Board positions with companies serving the education market.
Doug was Chief Executive Officer of Education Sales Management (ESM) and led the company’s strategy and growth until the sale of ESM to ACS/Xerox in late 2011. Previously, Doug was president and COO of eCollege where he was responsible for all operations of the company, including the eLearning and the enrollment services divisions, as well as the product technology functions. He also served on the Board of Directors. He led the eCollege IPO in 1999 and managed the company’s growth from less than $5 million in revenue to over $150 million. The company was sold to Pearson Education for over $550 million in 2007.
Doug is currently Chairman of the Board of Orbis Education and serves on the Board of YouSeeU, an education technology company. He is a trustee of the University of Colorado Foundation, and is active member of the advisory board of the University of Colorado at Denver Business School. Previous board positions include: Vector Learning, TopSchool, and eCollege. He is qualified as a financial expert for public companies.
He brings 30 years of executive management positions with both public and private companies in strategy, sales, technology, and finance. Kelsall holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver and has completed programs on corporate governance at the Kellogg School of Management and financial programs at the University of Washington.
Tony Marlow is the Head of Category Insights for Yahoo. This group consists of approximately 30 digital analytics and insights superstars doing various functions. He is based out of New York and joined Yahoo’s Strategic Insights group in January 2010 after moving from Sydney, where he led the Online Custom Research division for Nielsen across the Asia Pacific region.
Online research and digital trends fall into his area of expertise and he has a special interest in media measurement, mobile, and biometric research. During his time at Nielsen he led a team that invented a new way to measure the impact of online advertising, which became a highly successful regional solution.
Prior to Yahoo and Nielsen, Marlow was at a boutique strategic consultancy, where he designed and managed a range of research projects for both global and domestic brands, including within the technology space.
Marlow has provided comments for international news articles, television stories and loves to speak at various summits and conferences, especially on digital thought leadership topics.
All of these experiences have shaped his ability to see stories and trends in data, and also to distill these into meaningful information and strategic direction, which is his passion.
Mark Protus started his Microsoft career more than 25 years ago, developing interactive training and courseware for their first certification program, which remains one of the most sought-after global standards. His multi-dimensional impact to promote learning and software solutions includes roles in customer marketing, training, education, and courseware development. Mark is now the Director of Modern Learning and Video for Microsoft Office, where he leads online training across platforms and devices. As a Microsoft employee and industry consultant, Mark has a long history of leading pioneering learning and training efforts, including the Microsoft Virtual Academy and the Microsoft Mastering Series products.
Susan Metros serves as Associate Dean for the USC Jimmy lovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation, and as Director for Remote Programs for the USC Roski School of Art and Design. Previously, she served as Associate Vice Provost and Associate Chief Information Officer at USC. Her faculty affiliations are with the USC Roski School of Art and Design, the USC Rossier School of Education, and the USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. Before moving to Los Angeles, Metros held the positions of Interim CIO, Deputy CIO, and Executive Director for eLearning at The Ohio State University.
Susan Metros offers 20 years of experience as an academic technology executive and leader, and over 35 years of university-level teaching and research experience. Her IT leadership portfolio has included university-wide oversight for online learning, information and educational technologies, learning environments, web services, and research computing.
As a member of the USC Iovine and Young Academy leadership team, she supports all facets of the Academy’s strategy and operations, ranging from curricula development, through student admissions, to learning space design. As director for the Roski School of Art and Design's Remote Learning Programs, she is led the 2016 launch of the online Master of Science in Integrated Design Business and Technology partnered with WIRED.
Metros consults, publishes and presents on leadership and mentoring, creativity and innovation, visual and multimedia literacy, and the role of technology in transforming higher education to be multi-modal, interactive, and learner-driven. She conducts research and teaches courses in innovation, emerging technologies, and new literacies. She has also served on the New Media Consortium Board of Directors and the EDUCAUSE Board of Directors. Her terminal degree is a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Graphic Design from Michigan State University.
Steven Shapiro is the president and founder of Communications Strategy Group (CSG). He applies his expertise and experience in B2B and B2C marketing and communications strategies to lead his firm in creatively strategic, metrics-based thinking for its clients. Well-regarded for its strategic work in industries that include education, finance and professional services, consumer products, and corporate training and talent management, CSG supports its nationwide account base with measurable outcomes in all areas of PR, communications, and social networking.
Steven's past experience includes senior leadership positions in communications for Scudder Kemper Investments, the American Stock Exchange, and Jones Knowledge, and Jones International University. He has also held leadership positions with multinational organizations including Ernst & Young, Lehman Brothers, and Sharp Electronics.
Daniel is a co-founder and Managing Director of University Ventures, a leading higher education focused investment fund with approximately $300 million under management. Daniel started his career in investment banking at Goldman Sachs, but quickly realized he wanted to combine private capital with the creation of a next generation of socially beneficial education companies. Since leaving Goldman Sachs, he has invested in, founded, advised, or led a number of education related businesses that led to the creation of University Ventures.
Daniel currently sits on the boards of Ponce School of Medicine, Synergis Education, Galvanize, Qubed, and EDEX. Daniel is also involved in his community, serving on the Board of Trustees of Harlem Village Academies and the Alumni Council of Horace Mann. Daniel graduated from Columbia University and holds an MBA and Master's of Education from Stanford University.
