Online Master of Science in Teaching and Learning

The CSU-Global Master of Science in Teaching and Learning program is designed to elevate your leadership, intellect, and professional knowledge of educational theory and techniques for the promotion of lifelong learning and academic excellence. The degree coursework will emphasize issues of instruction, program development, and program management in PreK-12 educational learning environments and non-traditional settings.

Teaching and Learning Degree Specializations
In CSU-Global online graduate programs, students choose a core program and then select a specialization area, consisting of four (4) courses. Specializations allow students to take a sequence of courses in a career-relevant field. These courses will complement the program of study based on professional and personal interests.
Applied Business Management

This specialization is available to students in all graduate programs except the M.S. in Management.
English Language Learning (ELL)
Students in the English Language Learning Specialization gain the experience and skills necessary to teach preK-12 students from diverse language backgrounds.
This specialization is only available for students in the M.S. in Teaching and Learning Program.
Human Resource Management
Students interested in furthering their career in the field of human resources should consider this specialization which provides organizational management skills with an emphasis in personnel, staff training and development, policy and procedures, and more. This specialization is designed as a SHRM certification prep course.
This specialization is available to students in all graduate programs.
Human Resource Performance
Students who aim to improve an organization’s effectiveness through human resources should consider the Human Resource Performance Specialization. Emphasis is on the successful management of organized labor employees in dynamic environments.
This specialization is available to students in all graduate programs.
Information Technology
Managers, directors, and senior executives in Information Technology Management can gain vital knowledge to increase an organization’s efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace through advanced Information Technology strategies and implementation provided by this specialization.

Teacher Leadership
Teachers and professional educators who wish to become leaders of change and innovation will benefit from this specialization. In coordination with a master’s degree in Teaching and Learning, students will gain the knowledge to enhance the learning environment through policy and professional development.
This specialization is only available for students in the M.S. in Teaching and Learning Program.
Based on the agreement between CSU-Global Campus and Western State University, eighteen credits of the WS Licensure program can be articulated into CSU-Global Campus' M.S. in Teaching and Learning Degree. Students interested in this option should visit the Western State website at http://www.western.edu/education*

Each course is designed to incorporate a portfolio-quality project with close supervision and collaboration by the instructor that requires students to apply skills to specific scenarios. *OTL531 Models of Instructional Delivery: Examination and analysis of historical and contemporary models for delivery of instruction. Focus on applications of instructional methods in Pre-K-12 environments and non-traditional settings.
OTL550k Curriculum Development and Design: Philosophies and theories guiding the development of curriculum and courses for effective learning. Practical application in establishing quality assurance models for teaching and learning at the instructional level.
*OTL540k Theory and Practice in Backward Design: Introduction to instructional system design theories and models used in Pre-K-12 learning environments and non-traditional settings with a focus on backward design.
OTL541k Evaluation and Assessment: Examination of methods and techniques for evaluation and assessment of learning with a focus on instructional improvement and student achievement.
OTL543k Multimedia Technologies Design and Integration: Survey of methods, skills, and tools for creating multimedia learning opportunities. Creative exploration and application of new and emerging multimedia technologies to integrate into the classroom.
*OTL565 Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in the Differentiated Classroom: An examination of the theories and concepts that define cultural and linguistic diversity with an emphasis on the theory and methods for creating multiple pathways of learning to accommodate students with varying backgrounds of knowledge, readiness, language, interest, and learning styles.
*OTL568 Action Research: Advanced examination of a teacher led research approach with an emphasis on instructional improvement and student learning.
*OTL599 Capstone Project: This course provides students the opportunity to demonstrate the culmination of their learning in the MSTL through the design of a capstone project or portfolio of customized professional work. (Prerequisite: Completion of all Core Courses and Specialization Courses)
*CSU-Global required course for the M.S. in Teaching & Learning degree program with articulated Western State Teacher Licensure program. Additionally, CSU-Global course OTL510 Teacher Leadership is also required.
